This project in Encinitas, CA, focuses on transforming a standard backyard into a sophisticated, multi-functional outdoor living space. By balancing high-end hardscape elements with lush, sustainable softscaping, the design achieves a "Coastal Modern" aesthetic that feels both expansive and intimate.

Hardscape Design & Structure

The backbone of this transformation is a clean, geometric hardscape layout designed to maximize usable square footage.

• Stone Masonry & Paving: We utilized premium stone masonry for the patio areas, featuring a neutral palette that complements the coastal light. The transition between the patio and the lawn is defined by crisp, structural edges.
• Integrated Seating: Custom masonry elements serve dual purposes, acting as both retaining structures and integrated architectural features.
• Defined Zones: The layout creates distinct "rooms" for lounging and dining, ensuring a natural flow for hosting guests or relaxing as a family.

Landscape & Softscape Integration

The greenery was selected to provide a soft, organic contrast to the structured stone elements while remaining highly functional for the Southern California climate.

• Drought-Tolerant Palette: In alignment with sustainable practices, the plant selection emphasizes low-water, climate-appropriate species that offer year-round texture and color without excessive maintenance.
• Premium Synthetic Turf: To provide a vibrant, "always-green" play area that requires zero irrigation, high-quality synthetic turf was installed. It serves as a lush visual centerpiece that remains durable against foot traffic and pets.
• Privacy & Layering: Strategic planting along the perimeter provides natural screening, creating a private sanctuary feel within the suburban neighborhood.
